Boudoir Photographer Creative Shoot
As creative artists, we need to sometimes do shoots that are “out of the box”. When Rachel (one of the amazing hair/makeup artists that I work with for my women’s portraiture business) came to me with the idea of doing a series of creative shoots based on the elements (water, fire, air, earth/nature) I jumped on board immediately. I LOVE doing things that are out of the norm especially since I tend to travel off the beaten path. These are the type of things that, as a boudoir photographer, might not be done in everyday sessions. It’s what DRIVES me! These creative outlets are so invigorating and really put a little pep in our step.
We decided that to showcase the new studio (since we relocated from Townsend to Middletown, DE) we would shoot this creative session right here in the studio. On top of that – we thought it would be fun to LIVE STREAM the entire process via Periscope TV. If you aren’t familiar with Periscope; it’s an app that you can download to your phone so you can watch LIVE video streams from all over the world. Many boudoir photographers are now using it to show their potential clients exactly what goes into a session and behind the scenes videos to give viewers a chance to experience first hand what we do! If you download the app – be sure to follow me @dawnvgilmore.
The “catch” with Periscope is that the videos are LIVE and can only be watched via a 24 hour replay! Yep, that’s right – you only get 24 hours to watch us. So, since I am writing this blog about 10 hours after we streamed, you only have about 12 hours left to watch! Here is the LINK to the live stream that goes with the photos you will see below: https://www.periscope.tv/w/aLNJZjY1MTExMzh8MUJSS2pwZU9iUmFKd116EzS_fe7aEPVddDqOpyj0stMB2l4IQCa7R04pC2_f
Let’s start by giving you a BEFORE/AFTER shot of the amazing hair & makeup work that Rachel Quinn (be sure to follow her on Facebook) did on this session. If you are looking for an amazingly talented hair & makeup artist you can actually find her at Salon by Dominic in Hockessin, Delaware.
Rachel actually designed & created from scratch the head piece and the dress bodice. This was COMPLETELY her genius. I just was able to be a part of capturing this. I created this gold/textured background and of course we had to have some “fairie” lights for a few shots too. Those were my creative additions (thanks to a very handy hubby who really did go above and beyond by hanging stuff, painting, and helping my vision come to life). Here are all of the final shots that we took from this shoot! Watch for future Periscope LIVE streams as well as the other elements that we will be shooting over the next few months!
I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Ashley Campbell for being our subject today. She is NOT a professional model. In fact, she is also a very talented hair stylist that works with Rachel Quinn. She was truly a natural in front of the camera and we all had so much fun working together. I also want to say that as a boudoir photographer, getting to do something crazy like this (since most clients wouldn’t want their theme to be THIS out of the box), really gets the creative juices flowing. It makes me a very happy girl. 🙂
